Indian Premier League 2019, the biggest cricketing league in the world is about to get a head start for their 11th edition, from March 23. With the end of 10th edition of IPL, a lot of questions were raised about the 2019 season being played in India or abroad. This was mainly because of the Lok Sabha general elections and the drought situation in few states of India. The Board of control for cricket in India (BCCI) wanted to shift IPL abroad for the same. But Star Sports, who own the media rights for IPL won that battle against BCCI and IPL 2019 stayed in India.
The major problem with shifting IPL aboard was the low crowd response. The cash-rich IPL will earn more fame and money if it stays in India, and Star is unwilling to take the risk of shifting. However, the schedule for IPL 2019 has only been decided till April 5 and the rest would be declared once the election dates are finalised. Rajiv Shukla, a prominent leader of Congress and also a chairperson of IPL governing body have to make a lot of efforts for arranging the games.
Apart from the political and geographical scenarios, the other issues with IPL is the work load on players. Team India got done with a home series against Australia on March 13 and within next 10 days they play in IPL. There is very less time for team management and players to analyse the mistakes that cost them the series and to prepare for IPL. There is also a high risk of injuries in IPL before the World Cup 2019. It is suspected that many international players might not be available for the whole season of IPL keeping World Cup preparations in mind.
