Who would have thought Kolkata Knight Riders would chase a total of 206 with 5 balls to spare against the Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB). Andre Russell, the man in form, the man of power, the man who can do anything dispatched the bowlers to all corners of the ground to take KKR home.
Russell almost made the impossible possible with his power-hitting. At one point RCB were ahead of the game but Russell turned the tables around completely. He was on a rampage, smashing 48 off 13 with an out of the world strike rate of 369.23.
The away team was well in control of the chase, until Pawan Negi was got into the attack. He showed signs of spin and bounce in his bowling. As soon as Robin Uthappa was out checking his shot, things got tough for KKR. In his nect wicket Negi struck again with the big wicket of Chris Lynn. His conceded only 6 runs, taking the main wickets.
In the middle overs, RCB spinners did a great job of slowing things down. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled an economical spell of 4-0-24-1. He got the wicket of Nitish Rana(37) in his final over. With 53 needing off 18 and Andre Russell in the middle, anything was possible. Mohammed Siraj had to be replaced by Marcus Stoinis because of excess use of the short ball in spite of warning. Russell did not miss on this occasion and won it for his team.
Earlier in the match, the RCB batsmen finally arrived to the party. However, it was again Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers who led the innings. Kohli smashed 84 off 49 with 9 boundaries and 2 sixes and de Villiers scored 63 off 32 with 5 boundaries and 4 sixes. Contribution from Parthiv Patel (25) and Marcus Stoinis(28) helped the RCB reach a huge total.
