The Sultan of the Southeast Asian country Hassanal Bolkiah, who came up with the anti homosexuality law owns Dorchester Collection hotel group, which owns properties including The Bel-Air and The Beverly Hills Hotel.
Elton John,a singer-songwriter tweeted saying, I commend my friend, #GeorgeClooney, for taking a stand against the anti-gay discrimination and bigotry taking place in the nation of #Brunei - a place where gay people are brutalized, or worse - by boycotting the Sultan’s hotels.
He also added, I believe that love is love and being able to love as we choose is a basic human right. Wherever we go, my husband David and I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect - as do each and every one of the millions of LGBTQ+ people around the world.
Many hollywood celebrities were apalled by the law passed and George Clooney urged evryone to boycott the following hotels in his open letter.

Following this Ellen DeGeneres who has always been a strong advocate for homosexuality encouraged her followers to boycott the hotels, sharing a list of hotels in the United States and Europe to social media with an inspiring message.
"Tomorrow, the country of Brunei will start stoning gay people to death. We need to do something now. Please boycott these hotels owned by the Sultan of Brunei," she wrote. "Raise your voices now. Spread the word. Rise up."

Many other celebrities have shown dismay to this newly implemented sharia law. The consequences of it and the international turmoil is inexplicable.
