The Beats On A Food Trail

On a rainy Mumbai morning, we decided to go to a few offbeat destinations for our taste buds. We don’t know if y’all have heard about these places or not, but we are sure that you will love them. So off we go into the foodgasmic trail where you ought to go.

1. Idris Cold Drink Centre – Mohammed Ali Road

This is perhaps not as famous as all the local haunts of Mohammed Ali Road, but we are sure that this may very well be the best spot at the place for cooling down after some heavy snacking. Started in 1987, this shop houses 30 different flavours of cold drinks. Needless to say, the shop is entirely packed up in the summer. The best thing about this place is that all the flavours are made by Idris’ (the shop owner’s) mother. Idris says that out of the 30 odd flavours, four of them are rarely available anywhere. There’s the Falsa, Jeera Masala, Special Idris (a mixture of orange, pomegranate and rose) and Variyali (Saunf). The people who come there often become their regular customers. They say that they love coming over here, not just because of the delicious drinks but also because of the friendly and personal service that they offer. We too loved the taste and the service over at Idris Cold Drink Centre and we would love to go back there soon.

2. Chhan Chavdar Dukaan – Malviya Road, Vile Parle East

Often referred to as CCD by the students of Sathaye College and Dahanukar College, this shop is a treat for the people who know about it. Established in 1999, the place uses only natural products to make the different dishes available here. Vada Pav and Sabudana Khichdi are the two best things that you ought to try if you visit here; you’ll be left wanting for more. Another unique thing about this place is that once you give your order only then it will go into preparation, even for VadaPav and Sabundana Vada (both of which are famous for being a bulk product!). People coming to this place are also in awe of the chutney that is being used over here. And if you feel that you’ve eaten something spicy and want to cool down yourself then fret not, because with options like Kokum Sarbat and Buttermilk you can never go wrong. We loved this place and so will you.

3. Anand Stall – Mithibai College, Vile Parle West

Dosa, Sandwich, Vadapav, Franky. All of these things define the street food that is a part of Mumbai culture today, and Anand Stall is at the top of this part. Started about 40 years ago, this place is a very strong beam of light for the hungry students of Mithibai, NM and all the various colleges surrounding it. You would be spoiled for choices once you pick up the menu card from here. When we asked the people who frequently visit this place about their favourite thing on the menu card, they said that everything is their favourite and that they can’t pick out a single thing. This place is highly recommended for people visiting Mumbai.

Address -
Gulmohar Road No. 1, Opp. Mithibai College, Vile Parle West, Mumbai

That was it for this session. We enjoyed gorging on the glorious food from the streets of Mumbai. When we go for a food trail next time we’ll be sure of updating y’all about it.

We also have made a video in collaboration with SkyRed Productions. You can watch the video attached below.
