Delhi Capitals(DC) had a dream start after electing to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) in the match 10 of Indian Premier League(IPL). It was Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell who rescued KKR from a position of jeopardy. Their partnership took KKR to a fighting total  of 185 when they were struggling at 61 for 5 at one point.

The away team had lost half their side within the first 10 overs. It was the Nepalese boy, Sandeep Lamichhane who got the first break-through for the home team. In his first match of 2019, he took the wicket of debutant Nikhil Naik(7) in his very first over. It was then Harshal Patel who got the main wickets of Robin Uthappa(11) and Nitish Rana(1) on consecutive balls in between overs. Rishabh Pant took an amazing catch to get rid of Chris Lynn off Kagiso Rabada in the 7th over.

Shubman Gill had a great opportunity to prove his worth but lost his wicket in a run out while ball-watching. Russell and Karthik built a partnership of 91 to set up a fighting total. Russell suffered hit on shoulder off Patel in the 14th over. In the process, Russell also completed 1,000 IPL runs. Although he continued to play, he was clearly struggling, but as they say an injured tiger is more dangerous. Russell smashed high sixes to the pacers in the death overs.

Chris Morris too sustained an injury to his ankle while bowling. However, he took the important wicket of Russell in his next over. Although, the damage was already far from done. In his innings of 62 off 28, he hit 4 boundaries and 6 sixes with an extraordinary strike rate of 221.43. Just in the next over Karthik was dismissed too by Amit Mishra. He played a good supportive role along with Russell. He smashed 5 boundaries and 2 sixes in his innings of 50(36).

Every bowler had maintained good economy until the time Russell took his stance. It was Lamichhane with the best economy of 7.25. Rabada was the most expensive bowler with an economy of 10.25. It was Kuldeep Yadav(10*) and Piyush Chawla(12) who finished it off for KKR with some fireworks.

Scorecard: KKR 185 for 8 in 20 overs (Andre Russell 62, Dinesh Karthik 50; Harshal Patel 4-0-40-2) vs DC.
