Former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir has entered politics by joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). He decided to take this step just a week before the general Lok Sabha election. Earlier this month, Ganbhir was also awarded Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award.

Gambhir has always been active on social media regarding political and social issues. He was welcomed into the party by Arun Jaitley, India’s current Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, and Union Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Gambhir has played 147 ODIs, 58 Tests and 37 T2oIs for India between 2004 and 2013. He even played major role in World Cup 2007 and 2011 finals. He also led the Indian Premier League(IPL)franchise Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) to 2 IPL titles. Gambhir retired from all formats of cricket in December 2018.
