India’s democracy hanging on thin thread

As we know India is a democratic country and in a democracy, there are two most important things. One, the ruling party and the opposition party should function side by side and second, the fourth pillar of democracy should have a free hand. And, if that’s not the case, then it’s not a democracy.

The opposition's main role is to question the government and hold them accountable to the public. They should also act to discourage the party in power from acting against the interests of the country and the common man. But, the opposition too needs to understand that if they are the ones who have the first right to criticize the government then they should also be the first one to praise the government for their good work, a quality which is lacking in today's opposition.

And the same goes to the ruling party. Their main job is to understand what the opposition is talking about and why are they criticizing. They need to solve it instead of taking an effort to shut the opposition’s mouth. They need to understand that the real essence of democracy is that people should ask a question without any fear. But in today's government, they are lacking this.

The fourth pillar of democracy, the media, should have a free hand. But that doesn't mean they are above the rules and regulations. They should not ideally be controlled by any political party or business organization and should get a free hand to work unbiased. The media should also understand that their main work is to make people aware of the various social, political and economical activities happening in the country and around the world. They should focus on these things instead of backing a particular political party or business organization. The media is the one who shapes a healthy democracy as it is the backbone of democracy. But in today's time, it seems to be on a ventilator.

If we want democracy to survive; our
पक्ष - विपक्ष and पत्रकारिता (Government - Opposition and Media) need to understand their role and follow it properly.
