Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opted to bowl first in the opening match of Indian Premier League 2019 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB who had a strong batting line-up were dismantled by the CSK spinners. RCB was all-out for a mere score of 70 in 17.1 overs. This is the joint 6th lowest score in IPL so far.
RCB had a slow start to their innings, scoring only 33 in the Powerplay overs with the loss of two main wickets of Virat Kohli(6) and Moeen Ali (9). It was Deepak Chahar who bowled a tight spell of overs by only conceding 17 off his 4 overs. It was Harbhajan Singh who took the first wicket of Kohli which opened the floodgates. Harbhajan then took the wicket of Ali and the dangerous AB de Villiers.
Shimron Hetmyer, the debutant too failed to impress, by getting run-out on a duck. It was Imran Tahir later who did the damage along with Ravindra Jadeja. The slowness of the pitch proved to be a paradise for the CSK spinners. Tahir finished with amazing figures of 4-1-9-3.
It was Parthiv Patel was the highest scorer for RCB with 29 runs. He too was sent back to pavilion by Dwayne Bravo on the very first ball of his spell. CSK need 71 runs to register their first win of IPL 2019.
Scorecard: RCB 70 all-out (Parthiv Patel 29; Imran Tahir 4-1-9-3, Harbhajan Singh 4-0-20-3) vs CSK
