Mumbai Indians (MI) would be all set up for their opening match of Indian Premier League 2019 against the Delhi Capitals(DC) on March 24. However, they might miss the service of Lasith Malinga, who may not be available for the whole tournament. Malinga was roped in by MI in IPL 2019 auction after being unsold in IPL 2018 auction.
Malinga recently made a comeback in international cricket and did a decent job. In the pre-match press-conference, head coach, Mahela Jayawardene talked about Malinga's availability in the tournament. This is what MI tweeted on the same matter.
.@MahelaJay: When we got Malinga in the auction, Sri Lanka Cricket gave us his availability schedule. The (domestic) tournament wasn't a part of that.— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) March 23, 2019
There's a conversation to be made. Once we get through that conversation, we'll know frankly what's happening.#CricketMeriJaan
Malinga has been the leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far, even after missing a year of IPL. He is the only bowler in IPL to take more than 150 wickets. MI who had their worst start to the tournament last year, would look to capitalise from the start this year. MI will expect alot from experienced players like Yuvraj Singh and Malinga this year.
Apart from Malinga, Adam Milne might also not be available for the tournament due to injury. However, the good news for MI is the fitness of Hardik Pandya.
