Always hungry in Hyderabad

Rayala Vari Kodi Pulao in Ulavacharu restaurant

It goes without saying that Hyderabad is a paradise for food lovers and it was a no different story for me. First of all, three days are not enough to eat all the delicacies. In fact, no time is enough for this city which is growing drastically.

Every traveler who tours the city pays a visit to the most famous biryani in town, Paradise. We were no different. Paradise biryani is indeed worth a visit, but it is famous and not the best. If you are a biryani lover and have tasted different biryanis you will notice that the taste of the biryani in Paradise is similar to that of any other biryani. What was more interesting is that the Paradise special mutton gravy is way more delicious, but it is overshadowed by the biryani.

Talking to The Beats, Sabir Khan, the restaurant manager of the branch next to IMAX Theatre said that the secret of their success is the consistency in the taste and the recipe. However, if one wants to taste an original cuisine of the state, there is a restaurant that has made its reputation with this, Ulvacharu. The tagline—Originally original cuisine— is enough to know their USP.

We came to know about this chain of restaurants through the 'Foodmad with Rocky & Mayur' Hyderabad episode. Although not many consider the Ulavacharu menu as an authentic Hyderabadi cuisine, one cannot disagree with the fact that it is original. The starter we had (in the above picture), Mamsam Kaju Vepudu, was a mouth-burning spicy pieces of mutton with coriander and cashew on top of it. Nowhere in Mumbai have I had such a delicacy. No doubt it was spicy, but one could not resist the flavors.

We went there to experiment with their food and give our taste buds a full feast. We gave the manager full freedom with what he brings to our table. We were then introduced to a chef Balaram special Rayala Vari Kodi Pulao with some minor improvement in the original recipe. The cooking style was just like a biryani, with rice and gravy cooked differently and then added, but the taste was unique. If you do visit Hyderabad someday, do not miss out on this fine dining experience to try different dishes to surprise your tongue. Truly, Hyderabad is a city that will always keep you hungry for more.

However, the city is not only about biryani or non-vegetarians dishes, but it also has a wide range of bakery products. Of course, there is the famous Karachi bakery, but other than that we will talk about another bakery there which is not only making biscuits but also spreading love in the next article.
