Mumbai Indians(MI) pulled out a big chase defeating the Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) by chasing 198 in the match 24 of Indian Premier League 2019. It all went down to the last ball of the match and with 2 runs off 1 ball, MI got home with a win. Kieron Pollard's incredible innings of 83 off 31 with an ultimate strike-rate of 267.74 set the stage for home team.

Siddhesh Lad, who warmed the bench for half-a-decade started his IPL career with a six and followed it with a boundary. However, this start did not take him long, as he was dismissed on 15 by Mohammed Shami. Both, Quinton de Kock(24) and Suryakumar Yadav(21) failed to convert their starts. It was surprising to see the acting skipper Pollard to come in at four for the team which proved to be the best decision.

Two new batsmen in the middle slowed down the momentum for the home team. However, they were back to the job soon. It was Pollard who started the carnage targeting the 12th over by Sam Currran, hitting 17 runs. Inspite of the runs, Curran managed to run Ishan Kishan out for 7 on the last ball. Pollard might be an acting captain but he led from front smashing his half-century off only 22 balls. He targeted his bowlers well with 3 boundaries and 10 sixes in his whole innings. He along with Hardik Pandya added 41 for the 6th wicket partnership, before Shami took the wicket of Hardik.

Shami was on a roll with his first spell of 2-0-4-1, and soon when he was got in next, he contributed with the wickets of Pandya brothers in the same over. Curran was the most expensive, leaking 54 off his 4 overs.

Earlier in the match, KL Rahul registered his first IPL century by smashing 100* off 64 with 6 boundaries and sixes all over the ground. He and Chris Gayle (63) gave KXIP a flying start with a partnership of 116. MI did manage to pull things back in the middle overs, but the set Rahul dispatched the bowlers to boundary ropes in the death overs.

Scorecard: KXIP 197 for 4 in 20 overs (KL Rahul 100*, Chris Gayle 63; Hardik Pandya 4-0-57-2, Rahul Chahar 4-0-27-0) lost to MI 198 for 7 in 20 overs (Kieron Pollard 83; Mohammed Shami 4-0-21-3) by 3 wickets.
