While BJP-Congress take their fight on social media, Shivsena is still with traditional marketing |
Media has always been the major factor to influence the citizens during elections. However, in 2014 elections, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) took on social media as a mode of communication as well. For the start it was only promotion of party on social media. But after 5 years, it has come way far ahead.
When the BJP came in power we saw how extensively they used twitters to connect to their audiences. There were actually instances where verified accounts have replied to tweets of citizens.
At the peak of General Elections 2019, we see the same social media used as a tool to point out faults in the opposition party. Recently we saw every BJP leaders add prefix of 'Chowkidar' ahead of their names on twitter. The BJP now fancy themselves as the protector of the nations. Whereas, on the other hand, the opposition supporters and leaders chant 'Chowkidar chor hai' (the protector is a thief) during their speeches and rallies.
This has gone ahead of rallies and landed on social media as well. Here are few of the post that portray this cold war between parties
Both BJP and Congress have announced their first list of candidates. This has even led to shifting of parties for a seat. The Lok Sabha general election is scheduled to be held in 7 phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May 2019 and on the same day the results will be declared.
