Mumbai Indians(MI) love affair with last over-thriller continues, as they register their first win in Indian Premier League 2019 against Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB). MI, put to bat first scored 187. AB de Villiers with his effort of 70* failed to take RCB home in a thriller match.

It was all down to the last over when Malinga defended 17 runs. Shivam Dube started the over with six and reduced the equation to 11 off 5, and he was dropped the next ball by Jasprit Bumrah. It was all down to the last ball with the home team needing 7 off it and Malinga bowled a no ball which went unnoticed and that cost RCB the match. Bumrah was at his very best at the depth conceding only 6 runs in his last two overs. He finished with brilliant figures of 4-0-20-3.

RCB had a steady start to the chase with Moeen Ali opening the batting with Parthiv Patel. It was in the 4th over that Ali was run-out by Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli smashed three boundaries in the same over of Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli also became the second batsman to hit 5,000 IPL runs. However, he was out the next ball after he achieved this landmark.

AB de Villiers too achieved a milestone by completing his 4,000 IPL runs. He played the anchor role in RCB's chase by smashing 70* off 41 with 4 boundaries and 6 sixes. He was dropped by Yuvraj Singh at first slip on a golden duck. However, RCB kept losing wickets from the other end. It was again seen that the whole team was dependent on Kohli and de Villiers.

Earlier in the match, MI's top four got good starts but failed to convert it to a big innings. They added 142 runs, before the MI batting line up fell. It was the cameo of Hardik Pandya —32 off 14— that took MI to a fighting total. Yuzvendra Chahal starred with the ball for RCB. He picked up 4 for 38 and also gained the purple cap with 5 wickets.

Scorecard: MI 187 for 8 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 48, Hardik Pandya 32*; Yuzvendra Chahal 4-0-38-4) win against RCB 181 for 5 in 20 overs (AB de Villiers 70*, Virat Kohli 46; Jasprit Bumrah 4-0-20-3) by 6 runs.
