IPL 2019: Kings XI Punjab team preview

Image Source: Kings XI Punjab official twitter account

The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had a kick-start to their Indian Premier League campaign last year, winning 5 off their first 6 games. They had such a solid team, that they did not require Chris Gayle for the first two matches as well. However, when he came in, he was in the top-scorer list within few matches. They failed to qualify in the top four, winning only one game post the first 6 matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin might not look as an active captain, but he did a fairly good job in IPL 2018. He led the team from from by opening the bowling  attack at times. With the form KL Rahul was in the last season, he and Chris Gayle are nightmare of an opening pair for the bowlers. Mayank Agarwal too did a fairly good job as an opener. The main concern for KXIP with not much experience. There is West Indian wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran, Moises Henriques, Sarfaraz Khan, Karun Nair, Simran Singh, Mandeep Singh, Harpreet Brar. There is David Willey and Sam Curran to handle the tail end of batting.

The bowling unit has the experience of skipper Ashwin, Mohammed Shammi and Andrew Tye. There are many new faces in the team like Agnivesh Ayachi, Arshdeep Singh, Darshan Nalkande and Varun Chakravarthy. It would be interesting to see how the team uses Murugan Ashwin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The team balance seems unstable and with the failure of big players it is a major problem. However, we cannot forget the damage players like Rahul, Gayle and Miller can cause with the bat. Tye on his days can go through the opposition batting line-up as well.

Probable XI
KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, Moises Henriques, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shammi, Andrew Tye, Ankit Rajpoot.
