IPL 2019: Rajasthan Royals team preview

Image Source: Rajasthan Royals official twitter account

If you have browsed the Rajashtan Royals official site or even the IPL official site, you will be as shocked as me. Yes, there is Steven Smith in it. Even if not as captain, his presence in the squad makes all the difference. RR have a fairly decent squad with a mix bag of international players and potential local players. With the team they form, one can say they are favourites in IPL 2019.

It is sad to see Ajinkya Rahane not in World Cup 2019 squad and playing in IPL. With the middle order woes India is facing, it needs a Rahane for rescue. Lucky RR. Jos Buttler, who could not perform well down the order, seemed like a completely different batsman as an opener. His power-hitting and Rahane's stability is the best combination RR would ask for. Sanju Samson, Manan Vohra, Steven Smith, Ben Stokes, Rahul Tripathi and Stuart Binny are players with IPL experience handling the middle-order for RR. Ashton Turner, who literally turned Australia's fortune in the last ODI, is a great addition to the side. In the form he is, RR would love to try him out.

Last season is proof of the capability of local talent like Shreyas Gopal and Krishnappa Gowtham. This year, we never know which local player will achieve fame. There are batting all-rounders like Shubham Ranjane and Mahipal Lormor. The bowling unit is powerful with Jofra Archer, Oshane Thomas, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni and Ish Sodhi. The only issue with RR could be that they have all big names in international players, but they could only play four. So it would be a headache to choose between Buttler, Smith, Stokes, Archer, Thomas, Sodhi and Turner. Hope that the new jersey helps find the team in pink of condition (pun intended).

Probable XI
Jos Buttler (wk), Ajinkya Rahane (C), Sanju Samson, Steven Smith, Ashton Turner, Manan Vohra, Shreyas Gopal, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Krishnappa Gowtham
