Mumbai Indians fail to chase down Delhi Capitals humongous target

Mumbai Indians(MI), not winning the opening game of Indian Premier League since 2012, were far from winning it in 2019 as well. The Delhi Capitals(DC) posted a gigantic total of 213, courtesy Rishabh Pant and the start provided by Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram. Pant was on a roll, as he smashed 78 off just 27 with a amazing strike rate of 288.89. Yuvraj Singh, like a lone warrior fought till the end, hitting 53 off  35, but his efforts went in vain. Pant was clearly the difference between two teams.

MI did put up a fight as they made 176 in 19.2 overs. They lost the early wicket of Rohit Sharma in the fourth over by Ishant Sharma. Suryakumar Yadav was sent back early too by a direct hit from Shreyas Iyer. Quinton de Kock was looking good in the middle, but was taken again by Ishant. Kieron Pollard (21) and Yuvraj, stiched a partnership of 50 for the fifth wicket. However, that did not last long as Pollard miscued one to Rahul Tewatia off Keemo Paul.

Hardik Pandya, who was back in the middle from a lower-back injury, went on a duck as he was dismissed caught and bowled by Axar Patel. Krunal Pandya did provide some fireworks in the middle, but failed to carry the momentum. He scored 32 off 15 but was dismissed by a slower one off Trent Boult in the 15th over. Ben Cutting too was sent back cheaply by Kagiso Rabada, when he edged one back to Pant. Rabada ended with brilliant figures of 4-0-23-2.

MI play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 28, whereas DC play their next match at home against Chennai Super Kings on Match 26.

Scorecard: DC 213 for 6 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant 78*, Colin Ingram 47; Mitchell McClenaghan 4-0-40-3) beat MI 176-9 in 19.2 (Yuvraj Singh 53, Krunal Pandya 32; Kagiso Rabada 4-0-23-2) by 37 runs.
