The Indian Eves were tasked with knocking down the Indonesian Women’s Team in the first match of Round 2 qualifiers for the 2020 Olympics, Japan. The match was held at the Mandalarthiri Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar. The difference between the two teams was Dangmei Grace. The forward scored a very important brace for the team and ensured that India’s campaign starts with a bang. They managed to break the deadlock at the 26th minute and went on to score the second goal in the second half in the 67th minute.

Sandhiya turned provider for Grace for the first goal as she cut through three defenders with her impressive dribbling abilities and took a shot at goal, which was initially parried away by the Indonesian keeper, but the parried shot went straight towards Grace, who finished from close range to India the lead. The second goal that followed in the second half too was a very poor try at goalkeeping as the Indonesian custodian failed to parry the ball away, which resulted in Grace scoring the second goal for the India Eves. The Indonesian team failed to break through the tight Indian defence.

Indian Women’s Team coach, Maymol Rocky, said, “We wanted to start our qualifying campaign on a winning note and we have done so. Indonesia proved to be tough opponents that committed bodies in defence but we found a way to gather three points. It is important to keep the winning momentum alive and we were able to do so. We are taking one match at a time and our focus shifts on our next opponents Nepal (on April 06).”

Check out the highlights of the two goals scored.
