New Zealand announce 15-player squad for World Cup 2019

Inclusion of uncapped player Tom Blundell took everyone to surprise
New Zealand cricket has announced an experienced squad of 15 players for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The team would be led by Kane Williamson in the Word Cup starting from May 30. Tom Blundell, is the only surprise inclusion in the squad as a back-up wicket-keeper.

It was after the finger injury sustained by regular back-up keeper Tim Siefert, that Blundell was roped in the squad. He would play his debut match in the big event if first-choice gloveman Tom Latham gets injured. The Kiwis have been a part of six semi-finals and lost to Australia badly in last finals. However, with this squad they believe to turn things around.

Addressing the press, Coach Gary Stead said that he is confident about the team making it big this time. "We've got a squad here of 15 players that we think can give us a really, really good chance of going far into the tournament. If we play close to our potential, then hopefully we can do New Zealand proud."

With the World Cup beginning on May 30, New Zealand play their first match against Sri Lanka on June 1st at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Squad: Kane Williamson (c), Tom Blundell, Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.
