Prime minister Narendra Modi attacks Congress Poll manifesto. He says it’s not a manifesto, but an eyewash while addressing the crowd in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. Modi drew comparisons between the 60-year Congress rule and his government’s 60-month tenure while taking a dig at the party’s poll manifesto.
Taking a dig at the Congress’s poll manifesto released on Tuesday, PM said ‘ इसे घोषणा पत्र नहीं बल्कि ढकोसला पत्र कहना चाहिए’ “People who ruled 60 years have done nothing, I have been here for only 60 months and you can see the changes for yourself."
Prime minister also criticized Congress's 2004 LS election manifesto saying, "They had promised that every house would have electricity by 2009. However, till 2014 around 18,000 houses were unelectrified. Just like them (the Congress), their manifesto is corrupt and full of lies. Therefore, it should be called (a) hypocrisy document, not a manifesto.”
Not only did PM Modi attacked the Congress poll manifesto, but also other senior leaders of BJP criticized it. Hours after the Congress released its election manifesto, Union Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley called some of the ideas in the document ‘positively dangerous’. Jaitley went further to allege that it was a ‘tukde-tukde gang’ which had drafted some points of the manifesto. He referred to Congress’ promise of repealing Section 124A in the Indian Pnal Code, which is used to punish ‘seditious’ acts. It was an agenda for the ‘Balkanisation of India’, alleged the Finance Minister.
2019 Congress Manifesto is a Charter to Weaken India. After reading Congress Manifesto my worst fears have come true. The repeal of S.124A of the IPC, diluting AFSPA & “bail is the rule jail is the exception” for terrorists & hardcore criminals will compromise national security.— Chowkidar Arun Jaitley (@arunjaitley) April 2, 2019
India's foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said, "The Congress manifesto has made देशद्रोही और अलगाववादी (traitor and separatist) people happy." Replying to BJP, Congress leader P Chidambaram said, it may be impossible for BJP to implement the manifesto but not for Congress.
